Perseverance

Summer has been hard here in the mid west.  We have had an unusually   HOT DRY season.  Though we have gotten a break from the heat, the drought conditions still persist.  So  the last few mornings I have been amazed to see this site out my kitchen.  

It is a single bloom from the Moon Flower (or Evening Glory) seeds I planted in the spring.  I have given up watering any of my plants.  They were just struggling with the heat even when I was watering them this summer.  Honestly I pretty much gave up on everything after we got back from our vacation.   Here's the proof in the picture below of the whole plant .  Notice the dead yard behind it. 

 

It is amazing how this one little bloom has persevered. 

 

Because unfortunately life is not easy for a plant in our back yard.

I was just going through some of my pictures today and ran across these.  This tree is in Missouri, not too far from Columbia.  It sits all by itself in the middle of some fields, just begging me to take some pictures of it.  Andy thinks he may have read somewhere that it was the oldest in Missouri.  Just think what this tree has seen in its life.

After a stressful week, this is how we started out the weekend, a new recipe.  Stickybun Breakfast Ring.  

 

Very similar to Monkey Bread, but no cutting up biscuits, no shaking the bag to coat the pieces, less cooking time, just an easier recipe.   I think I like Monkey Bread better, but.....all in all a  great way to start what I hope will be a stress free relaxing weekend.
